| Statement of Intent: The purpose of this Bill is to provide the public school systems with a cheaper and environmentally friendly source of electricity while setting up a way to help lower educational taxes after the 6 years of enactment.
Effective Date: This Bill shall take effect on January 1, 2011 and end on January 1, 2017.
Financial Statement: Each solar power system costs approximately $14,975. The total cost to provide the 378 public high schools with solar power systems is $6 million dollars; therefore to install solar power systems in 67 schools each year for six years it will cost $1 million per year. To fund these systems, an additional $1 will be added to the yearly total tax for education, which is currently approximately $5,000 a year per family. After the six years of enactment, the cost for electricity for each school will drop by approximately $156 per year which means that all the public schools of New Jersey will save a total of $58,968 per year allowing future legislation to create a reduced educational tax.
