An act proposing the requirement that all American-Made motor vehicles purchased New Jersey have side airbags to enforce the safety of motorists and passengers.

Be it enacted by the Youth Model Legislature of the State of New Jersey that that all motor vehicles contain functioning and protective side airbags.

Section I:

Any American-Made vehicle purchased in New Jersey must contain side airbags.

Section II:

Impact from the side of the car in an accident does not always set off the airbags, but with the required side airbags, drivers and passengers will always be protected.

Section III:

Side airbags will reduce death rates in car accidents by adding a protective cushioning from another angle.

Section IV:

When the bill is passed, manufacturers must gradually add side airbags into their newer car models.

Section V:

Bill only applies to cars purchased after the effective date.

Section VI:

Companies without this addition will be fined $500.00 per vehicle.

     
Statement of Intent: The purpose of this Bill is to decrease injuries and deaths caused by motor vehicle accidents and to increase the safety in motor vehicles.

Effective Date: This Bill shall take effect on July 1, 2013.

Financial Statement: This bill will cost $0.00 due to the manufacturers ability to create their own airbags.
