An act relating to sexual offenders

Be it enacted by the Youth Model Legislature of the State of New Jersey that that new home buyers are notified about nearby sexual offenders upon purchase.

Section I:

New home buyers in the state of New Jersey will be notified within 60 days of home purchase if any sex offenders reside nearby.

Section II:

Notification will be sent out by the respective local police departments.

Section III:

Sellers of homes who have received previous notifications about a nearby offender are not required by law to release that information.

Section IV:

Sex offenders of only Tier III will be mentioned in notification to the new home buyer, following the terms of New Jersey’s Megan’s Law.

Section V:

This bill shall take effect 6 months after being enacted

     
Statement of Intent: The purpose of this Bill is to provide home-buyers in Megan’s Law notification areas information about Tier III sexual offenders less than a month after home purchase.

Effective Date: This Bill shall take effect 6 months after being enacted.

Financial Statement: The cost of this bill shall be $5,000 for future notifications which now would need to be sent out and the rewriting and redistribution of the law books.
